Kite Reflection (6-D): Feb. 4, 2013
1. Evaluate: What are the good/strong parts of your project? What is done well and why?
The good parts of my kite is the theme, because the theme I did was the TARDIS from Doctor Who. Many people don't know what Doctor Who is, so they think nothing of my kite. But to people who know what Doctor Who is they'll understand what my kite is.
2. Evaluate: What do you think you could have done better? What is not great and why?
The thing that I could have done better is the coloring. Because some of the strokes of the light blue boxes are not the same because, some of the strokes are long while other ones are short, and some of the markers ran out so I had to get another one, which didn't help with the strokes.
3. Describe the theme of your kite: What is the overall unity of your kite? Why did you choose to do it that way?
The theme of my kite is the TARDIS from Doctor Who. Because I like Doctor Who, it is one of my favorite TV shows.
4. Describe the shape/form of your kite: What shape did you use for your kite? Why did you select that shape?
My form is a box. I originally was going to do a triangle kite, but then one of the exceeding options was to do a 3-D kite, and since the TARDIS is a Police Box I thought it would be cool to make the TARDIS. Also because I like Doctor Who.
5. Describe the color used in your project: What are the major colors or color families represented in your kite? Why did you choose to do it that way?
The colors of my kite is blue, white, black, and purple. The major color of my kite is blue because the TARDIS is a blue box.
6. Analyze the use of materials: What do you conclude about kite building? What are the positives and negatives of using tape, Sharpie, Tyvek, dowels, and why?
I conclude that kite building takes time, work, and concentration. Because you can't finish your kite in just a day or two, you need at least a week, depending and how good you want it, and how long you work at it.
Positive Negative
Tape It's strong It sticks to
itself, and it
wrinkles easily
Sharpie It works with If you mess
with the up you have
Tyvek, and it to start over
gives it a bold color
Tyvek It's light, If you mess
and strong up you have
to start over
Dowels They make You have to
your kite use a coping
strong, but saw to cut
still light them
enough so it
can still fly
7. Metacognate: What did you learn from this project that you could apply to other projects in the future? What lessons could be applied to life in general? Why?
To take your time when you're coloring, so you don't mess up. and to have enough markers so they don't run out of the colors. Because if you rush through things it will turn out bad, and if you're working for someone, they won't like it if you rushed the project, because it will end up sloppy, and the customer won't like it either.
8. Describe the design process of your project (the steps): Why did you do it the way you did? Was it planned? Was it by chance? What changed as you went along with the project? What challenges did you face and did you overcome them? Elaborate...
First I made a mock up of it, then I cut the Tyvek into for rectangle pieces since I was making a box kite. I then started coloring the sides, since I made a box kite I did not have to color both sides. after I was done with that I colored my tails. after I was all done, I started to put it together. I first taped on my tails, then I started taping my dowels on to make it look like a box. I started out with a idea for a triangle kite, but I changed my mind to make a box kite. Some of the markers ran out so I had to get a new one.
9. Is this a worthwhile project? What should Mr. Purdy do to this project in the future? Why?
Yes this is a worthwhile project. Lengthening the time a little, and have more markers so they won't run out.
